Abstract
PURPOE: To determine whether the hepatocyte growth factor i increaed in the vitreou of patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
METHOD: We aayed hepatocyte growth factor level by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay (ELIA) in vitreou ample from 65 conecutive eye (65 patient) with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (23 eye), rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (22 eye), and macular hole or idiopathic epiretinal membrane (control ubject, 20 eye) having undergone par plana vitrectomy.
REULT: Vitreou level of hepatocyte growth factor were 3.94 ± 2.29 (mean ± D) ng/ml in proliferative vitreoretinopathy, 2.02 ± 0.84 ng/ml in rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, and 2.16 ± 1.39 ng/ml in the control ubject. The vitreou level in proliferative vitreoretinopathy were much greater than level in rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (P = .0002) and in the control ubject (P =.0007). In proliferative vitreoretinopathy, there wa a tendency toward higher level in eye with grade D by the Retina ociety terminology.
CONCLUION: The reult ugget the poibility that hepatocyte growth factor may play a role in the pathogenei of proliferative vitreoretinopathy
