Interocular difference in progreion of glaucoma correlate with interocular difference in retrobulbar circulation

PURPOE: To evaluate the correlation between interocular difference in progreion of glaucomatou damage and interocular difference in retrobulbar blood flow. METHOD: On the bai of a retropective analyi of viual field, progreive damage wa identified in 20 patient with primary open-angle glaucoma. A a parameter of interocular difference in progreion of viual field damage, the angle (gamma) between the regreion line of the viual field index mean defect over time per eye wa calculated for each ubject. The relationhip between the angle gamma and interocular difference in intraocular preure and retrobulbar color Doppler imaging parameter wa analyzed by a multiple linear regreion analyi in a tepwie forward approach. REULT: With larger interocular difference in progreion of glaucomatou damage, lower mean blood flow velocitie in the ophthalmic artery (partial r = −.69; P < .0016), higher reitivity indice in the central retinal artery (partial r = .48; P < .0456), and higher peak ytolic velocitie in the ophthalmic artery (partial r = .52; P < .0285) were noted in the eye with more marked progreion of damage (multiple r = .71; P < .0099). Interocular difference in progreion of viual field damage were not related to intraocular preure or extent of viual field damage. CONCLUION: Independent of the extent of the interocular difference in glaucomatou damage and intraocular preure, interocular difference in progreion of glaucomatou viual field damage correlate with interocular difference in retrobulbar hemodynamic parameter.
