  • Abstract
PURPOE: To report the reult of initial and re-treatment laer in itu keratomileui procedure for myopia and atigmatim. METHOD: A total of 1161 conecutive inital and retreatment laer in itu keratomileui procedure in 697 patient performed between eptember 19, 1996, and June 20, 1998, were retropectively analyzed. Baeline and potoperative bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity, uncorrected viual acuity, pherical and cylindrical refraction, computerized video keratography, and biomicrocopy were meaured or performed on each eye. REULT: Of 1,071 eye, 900 (84%) underwent a ingle-laer in itu keratomileui procedure, and 171 of 1,071 eye (16%) underwent one or two re-treatment procedure. The preoperative mean ± D pherical equivalent wa −5.09 ± 3.15 diopter (range, −0.75 to −14.38 diopter) and the cylinder wa 0.97 ± 1.09 diopter (range, 0.00 to 3.25 diopter) in the group that underwent a ingle laer in itu keratomileui treatment. The preoperative mean ± D pherical equivalent wa −6.26 ± 3.04 diopter (range, −1.75 to −12.88 diopter) and the cylinder wa 1.53 ± 1.11 diopter (range, 0.00 to 3.50 diopter) in the group that underwent re-treatment. Before re-treatment, 110 eye (64.3%) in the group that underwent re-treatment achieved 20/40 or better uncorrected viual acuity and 23 eye (13.5%) achieved 20/25 or better. Three month after re-treatment, 155 eye (90.6%) achieved 20/40 or better, and 80 eye (46.8%) achieved 20/25 or better. In the ingle-procedure group, uncorrected viual acuity at 3 month revealed 20/40 viion or better in 856 eye (95.1%) and 20/25 viion or better in 572 eye (63.6%). In thi tudy group, 23.6% of eye with a preoperative pherical equivalent greater than −6.0 diopter underwent re-treatment compared with 11.8% of eye with a preoperative pherical equivalent of −6.0 diopter or le. CONCLUION: Laer in itu keratomileui appear to be an effective procedure for mild, moderate, and evere myopia. In eye with reidual refractive error, re-treatment laer in itu keratomileui procedure can reult in good viual outcome.
