Abstract :
PURPOE: The aim of thi tudy wa to determine nitric oxide level in the vitreou of patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
METHOD: Uing the pectrophotometric method baed on Grie reaction, we meaured level of nitrite, the table product of nitric oxide, in the vitreou of 21 eye of 21 patient who underwent vitrectomy for the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy with tractional retinal detachment, propectively. Three ample were excluded from the tudy becaue of blood contamination. The control group wa made up of vitreou ample from 15 eye of 15 normal cadaver and five eye of five patient who were undergoing vitrectomy for macular hole urgery.
REULT: Nitrite level were 0.524 ± 0.27 μM and 0.383 ± 0.17 μM in the vitreou of patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy of diabete type I and type II, repectively. In 15 cadaver eye and five vitreou ample from patient who underwent macular hole urgery, nitrite level were below the detection limit (le than 0.08 μM). There wa no ignificant difference between nitrite level in patient with type I and type II diabete (P = .56), wherea there wa a ignificant difference between diabete group and control (P < .00001).
CONCLUION: Vitreou nitric oxide level are elevated in patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy with tractional retinal detachment. Nitric oxide may play a role in the pathogenei of proliferative diabetic retinopathy
