ubmacular urgery to remove choroidal neovacularization aociated with central erou chorioretinopathy

PURPOE: To report the reult of ubmacular urgery for removal of choroidal neovacularization aociated with central erou chorioretinopathy. METHOD: Ten eye of nine conecutive patient with central erou chorioretinopathy and ubfoveal or juxtafoveal choroidal neovacularization underwent par plana vitrectomy with removal of the choroidal neovacular membrane between January 1994 and January 1999. REULT: All 10 eye (nine patient) were followed potoperatively for at leat 6 month. The mean potoperative follow-up wa 23 month (range, 6 to 56.5 month). The patient were followed for an average of 6.2 month from the time of ymptom to the removal of the choroidal neovacularization. Preoperative mean bet-corrected viual acuity wa 20/100 (range, 20/25 to 20/400), and potoperative bet-corrected mean viual acuity wa 20/60 + 2 (range, 20/20 to 20/400). even eye had improved potoperative viual acuity, with an average of 3.4 line gained. Of the three eye that had wore acuity, an average of 1.3 line of viual acuity wa lot; final mean potoperative viual acuity wa 20/80 + 1 (range, 20/25 to 20/400). Of the ix eye with ymptom of le than 3 month’ duration, four had a final viual acuity of 20/50 or better. All three eye with 20/300 or wore final viual acuity had lo of foveal retinal pigment epithelium after urgery; the remaining eye had preerved retinal pigment epithelium with a viual acuity of 20/70 or better. Two eye had intraoperative peripheral retinal tear, and two eye had recurrence of the choroidal neovacular complex. CONCLUION: The anatomic and viual reult in eye with choroidal neovacularization aociated with central erou chorioretinopathy are modetly encouraging and ugget that ubmacular urgery for choroidal neovacularization in patient with central erou chorioretinopathy i a treatment option that may alvage good macular function in ome eye.
