Abstract
PURPOE: To report the localization of a gene cauing druen and macular degeneration in a previouly undecribed North American family.
METHOD: Genetic mapping tudie were performed uing linkage analyi in a ingle family with druen and atrophic macular degeneration.
REULT: The clinical manifetation in thi family ranged from fine macular druen in aymptomatic middle-aged individual to atrophic macular leion in two children and two elderly patient. We mapped the gene to chromoome 6q14 between marker D62258 and D61644.
CONCLUION: In a family with autoomal dominant druen and atrophic macular degeneration, the gene map to a 3.2-cM region on chromoome 6q14. Thi locu appear to be ditinct from, but adjacent to, the loci for cone-rod dytrophy 7 (CORD7) and North Carolina macular dytrophy (MCDR1). Future identification of the gene reponible for the dieae in thi family will provide a better undertanding of macular degeneration
