Bilateral blindne and lumboacral myelopathy aociated with high-doe carmutine and ciplatin therapy

PURPOE: To report the early ocular pathologic finding aociated with high-doe carmutine and ciplatin therapy. METHOD: A patient with metatatic breat carcinoma developed an acute onet of branch retinal artery occluion, bilateral blindne, and a myelopathy involving the lower extremitie after high-doe chemotherapy and bone marrow tranplant. REULT: Hitopathologic examination of the eye and optic nerve at autopy dicloed nerve fiber layer infarction econdary to right inferior temporal retinal artery thromboi. Patchy necroi of both optic nerve, medulla oblongata, and pinal cord wa aociated with focal mall-veel thromboi. CONCLUION: The yndrome of retinal vacular occluion, optic neuropathy, and myelopathy i aociated with the high-doe chemotherapeutic agent carmutine and ciplatin. The ditribution of necroi ugget an ichemic event rather than direct neurotoxic effect.
