Abstract :
PURPOE: To review a erie of patient with age-related macular degeneration undergoing limited macular tranlocation for the treatment of ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization, to determine hort-term viual acuity outcome, to meaure amount of attainable retinal movement, and to identify prognotic factor.
METHOD: A retropective review wa conducted on a conecutive erie of patient undergoing inferior limited macular tranlocation with cleral imbrication for the treatment of ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to age-related macular degeneration. The main outcome meaure invetigated were ditance of macular tranlocation, viual acuity at 3 and 6 month after urgery, change in viual acuity from baeline, and the development of intraoperative and potoperative complication. Univariate and multivariate analye of a number of potential prognotic factor were undertaken.
REULT: Macular tranlocation wa achieved in all 102 eye (101 patient) included in thi tudy. The range of movement varied from 200 to 2,800 μm with a median movement of 1,200 μm. Nearly 33% of the tudy group achieved a viual acuity better than 20/100 at 3 month, and 49% achieved thi viion at 6 month. At 3 and 6 month, 37% and 48% of the tudy group, repectively, experienced 2 or more line of improvement on viual acuity teting, and by 6 month 16% experienced greater than 6 line of viual improvement. Good baeline viion, achieving the deired amount of macular tranlocation, a greater amount of macular tranlocation, and recurrent choroidal neovacularization at baeline were aociated with better viual acuitie at 3 and 6 month. Poor preoperative viion and the development of complication were aociated with wore viion at 3 and 6 month.
CONCLUION: Limited macular tranlocation i a technically feaible procedure that can lead to ignificant viual improvement and good viual acuity in ome patient preenting with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization aociated with age-related macular degeneration. A randomized propective clinical trial of thi urgical technique i warranted
