Abstract :
PURPOE: To examine the influence of atigmatim on the viual acuity of patient with multifocal and monofocal intraocular lene.
METHOD: Thirty eye of 30 patient who underwent five-zone refractive multifocal intraocular len implantation and 30 eye of 30 age-matched patient who had monofocal intraocular len implantation were included. The viual acuitie of thee patient at 5.0, 3.0, 2.0, 1.0, 0.7, 0.5, and 0.3 m were meaured by mean of an all-ditance viion teter after addition of a cylindrical len of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 diopter.
REULT: Mean viual acuity at all ditance decreaed in proportion to the diopter of atigmatim in both the multifocal and monofocal intraocular len group. When atigmatim wa 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 diopter, ditance viual acuity in the multifocal group wa ignificantly wore than that in the monofocal group; with atigmatim of 2.0 diopter or more, intermediate viual acuity wa alo wore in the multifocal group. In contrat, near viual acuity in the multifocal group wa ignificantly better than that in the monofocal group at all atigmatic diopter. When atigmatim wa within 1.0 diopter, viual acuity in the multifocal group reached 20/29 at ditance and 20/50 at near. Mean contrat enitivity wa alo wore in the multifocal group than in the monofocal group.
CONCLUION: Both ditance and intermediate viual acuity deterioration caued by atigmatim wa greater with a multifocal intraocular len than with a monofocal intraocular len, wherea near viual acuity wa better with the multifocal intraocular len. When atigmatim wa within 1.0 diopter, eye with a multifocal intraocular len achieved good viual acuity at both ditance and near.
