Abstract :
PURPOE: A defect in the viual field i one of the eriou complication of macular hole urgery. We invetigated the relationhip between the occurrence of viual field defect and the location of infuion cannula and air preure during fluid–air exchange. METHOD: We tudied 100 eye from 90 patient with macular hole. All patient underwent preoperative and potoperative viual field teting. Vitreou urgery wa performed in a tandard three-port fahion, with urgically induced poterior vitreou detachment, fluid–air exchange, and ulfur hexafluoride ga injection. We analyzed difference in urgical method in three group. In group A, the infuion cannula wa placed inferotemporally, and the air preure wa et at 50 mm Hg. In group B, the infuion cannula wa placed inferonaally, and the air preure wa et at 50 mm Hg. In group C, the infuion cannula wa placed inferotemporally, and the air preure wa et at 30 mm Hg. Abtract REULT: Eighteen eye (18%) howed viual field defect after vitrectomy. The defect wa alway located contralateral to the infuion cannula. There wa no tatitically ignificant difference in the incidence of viual field defect in group A and B. Decreaed air preure reduced the occurrence of viual field defect ignificantly (24% in group A veru 4% in group C, P = .011). CONCLUION: The location of the viual field defect correlated with the location of the infuion cannula. The incidence of thi viual field defect wa influenced trongly by the infuion air preure. The viual field defect may be caued by the mechanical damage of air infuion.
