Abstract :
PURPOE: To compare the intraocular preure (IOP) lowering effect of fixed combination dorzolamide 2% and timolol 0.5% therapy to that of concomitant adminitration of a topical beta-blocker and dorzolamide. METHOD: eventy-four conecutive glaucoma patient were changed from a regimen including a topical beta-blocker and dorzolamide to the fixed combination dorzolamide–timolol in 1 eye, with the other eye ued a the control. The average IOP reading before and 1 month after the change were compared. REULT: The mean baeline IOP in the entire tudy population wa 19.4 ± 4.2 mm Hg in the tudy eye and 16.9 ± 4.2 mm Hg in the control eye. Four week after the medication change, the mean IOP wa 17.3 ± 3.9 mm Hg in the tudy eye (P < .001) and 16.1 ± 4.1 mm Hg in the control eye (P = .02). The difference between the mean IOP change of 2.1 mm Hg in the tudy eye and 0.8 mm Hg in the control eye wa found to be tatitically ignificant (P = .01). CONCLUION: Thee finding ugget that the fixed combination dorzolamide–timolol therapy achieve additional lowering of the intraocular preure compared with the concomitant adminitration of a beta-blocker and dorzolamide
