Hypothyroidim and glaucoma. a tudy of 100 hypothyroid patient

PURPOE: To determine whether glaucoma i aociated with hypothyroidim, a ha previouly been uggeted. METHOD: Thi i a cro-ectional tudy and a noncomparative interventional cae erie. One hundred conecutive patient with newly diagnoed hypothyroidim were referred for complete ophthalmologic examination, including automated perimetry and examination of the optic dik, to identify the preence of glaucoma. After correction of the hypothyroidim, reexamination wa performed. REULT: No patient had glaucoma and no correlation wa found between intraocular preure and either thyroid timulating hormone or free tri-iodothyronine. No tatitically ignificant difference wa found between intraocular preure level before and after treatment of the hypothyroidim. CONCLUION: Thi tudy doe not demontrate an aociation between hypothyroidim and glaucoma.
