Abstract :
PURPOE: To compare method of diinfecting Goldmann tonometer tip inoculated with hepatiti C viru. METHOD: Hepatiti C viru wa placed on Goldmann tonometer tip, air dried, and then diinfected by dry gauze wipe, iopropyl alcohol wipe, cold water wahe, povidone iodine 10% wipe, and hydrogen peroxide or iopropyl alcohol oak followed by a cold water wah and dry. Hydrogen peroxide and iopropyl alcohol diinfection technique followed the Center for Dieae Control and Prevention guideline for prevention of poible tranmiion of human immunodeficiency viru (HIV). After diinfection, ample from tonometer tip were amplified by polymerae chain reaction to quantitate the amount of hepatiti C viru RNA remaining. REULT: Percentage of hepatiti C viru RNA remaining after diinfection: dry gauze wipe 95.65%, iopropyl alcohol 5-econd wipe 88.91%, cold water wah 4.78%, povidone iodine 10% 5-econd wipe 0.72%, hydrogen peroxide oak with cold water wah 0.07%, and iopropyl alcohol oak and cold water wah 0.02%. CONCLUION: After inoculation of Goldmann tonometer tip with hepatiti C viru, a 5-minute oak in 3% hydrogen peroxide or 70% iopropyl alcohol followed by wahing in cold water reulted in the greatet reduction in hepatiti C viru RNA.
