Abstract
PURPOE: To raie the awarene of the rare complication of monocular blindne reulting from radiofrequency rhizotomy for trigeminal neuralgia.
METHOD: Cae erie from tertiary referral center. Patient were referred after complaint of lo of viion.
REULT: We report three patient who had trigeminal neuralgia and underwent treatment by radiofrequency rhizotomy. Each developed complete lo of viion in one eye immediately after the procedure. One patient died of an unrelated caue, and pathologic analyi revealed change compatible with acute trauma to the right optic nerve.
CONCLUION: Our third cae confirm the hypothei that traumatic optic neuropathy after trigeminal radiofrequency rhizotomy reult from malpoitioning of the rhizotomy needle through the inferior orbital fiure into the orbital apex rather than the foramen ovale
