METHOD: A panel of ophthalmologit with expertie in macular tranlocation reviewed available data and developed ome unifying concept, terminology, and claification of macular tranlocation. REULT: Macular tranlocation may be defined a any urgery that ha a primary goal of relocating the central neuroenory retina or fovea intraoperatively or potoperatively pecifically for the management of macular dieae. It may be claified according to the ize of the retinotomy and, where applicable, the technique of choriocleral hortening ued. The direction of macular tranlocation i denoted by the movement of the neuroenory macula relative to the underlying tiue. Effective macular tranlocation may be defined a ucceful intraoperative or potoperative relocation of the fovea overlying a ubfoveal leion to an area outide the border of the leion. The concept of minimum deired tranlocation and median potoperative foveal diplacement can give ome ueful idea of the likelihood of effective macular tranlocation before urgery. CONCLUION: Ue of a common tandardized terminology for macular tranlocation will facilitate communication within the cientific community and enhance further reearch in thi area.
