Abstract
PURPOE: To report the outcome of microporidial keratoconjunctiviti in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency yndrome (AID) after highly active antiretroviral therapy without any pecific treatment for microporidioi.
METHOD: Cae report. A 42-year-old woman diagnoed with AID and evere immunodepreion (CD4+ of 9 cell/mm3 and viral load of 460,000/mm3), antiretroviral naive, preented with cerebral toxoplamoi and microporidial keratoconjunctiviti in the right eye documented by conjunctival craping and electron microcopy.
REULT: The patient wa treated with a combination of indinavir, tavudine, and lamivudine, beide ulfadiazine and pyrimethamine. No pecific treatment for the microporidial keratoconjunctiviti wa attempted. One month later, the keratoconjunctiviti had diappeared.
CONCLUION: Thi cae ugget that microporidial keratoconjunctiviti in the etting of AID and evere immunodepreion can be effectively managed with highly active antiretroviral therapy alone
