Abstract
PURPOE: To decribe the ue of intravitreal indocyanine green a an aid to identifying epiretinal membrane and internal-limiting membrane during urgery for a retinal detachment reulting from a macular hole.
METHOD: A 62-year-old man who had a retinal detachment reulting from a macular hole underwent vitrectomy. During the urgery, intravitreal indocyanine green wa injected intravitreally.
REULT: The internal-limiting membrane wa tained green, but the epiretinal membrane wa untained. Becaue the epiretinal membrane and internal-limiting membrane were clearly identified, they could be completely removed. The clinical obervation of the epiretinal membrane and internal-limiting membrane excied were confirmed by electron microcopy. ucceful reattachment wa obtained without damage to the retina.
CONCLUION: Removal of epiretinal membrane and internal-limiting membrane can be facilitated by uing intravitreal indocyanine green during vitrectomy. We recommend further tudie to confirm the benefit of thi technique.
