Abstract :
PURPOE: To identify aociation between complication of dieae and final viual acuity in patient with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae and to identify prognotic factor for dieae outcome.
METHOD: All patient diagnoed with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae at the Doheny Eye Intitute or the Lo Angele County/Univerity of outhern California Medical Center between 1983 and 1997 were reviewed. Data extracted included initial and final viual acuitie, age, gender, ethnicity, complication, treatment, duration of dieae, and number of recurrence.
REULT: One hundred one patient with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae were identified, 68 (67%) of which were female. Mean age wa 34 ± 14 year (range, 8 to 75 year). Aian preented at a ignificantly older age than all other group. One hundred three eye (51%) developed at leat one complication, including cataract in 84 eye (42%), glaucoma in 54 eye (27%), choroidal neovacular membrane in 22 eye (11%), and ubretinal fibroi in 13 eye (6%). Patient who developed at leat one complication had a ignificantly longer median duration of dieae and number of recurrent epiode of inflammation (P = .0001 for each) than did thoe patient who developed no complication. tatitically ignificant aociation exited between poor final viual acuity and greater number of complication (P = .001), greater age at onet (P = .03), a longer median duration of dieae (P = .03), and greater number of recurrent epiode of inflammation (P = .0004). Eye poeing a better viual acuity at preentation were more likely to have a better viual acuity at final follow-up (P = .001).
CONCLUION: Factor aociated with a wore final acuity included increaing number of complication, greater age at onet, and wore acuity at preentation.
