Abstract :
PURPOE: Thi tudy report outcome of phacoemulification cataract extraction and poterior chamber intraocular len implantation within the capular bag in patient with uveiti.
METHOD: We retropectively reviewed the chart of 32 patient (39 eye) with uveiti who underwent phacoemulification cataract extraction and poterior chamber intraocular len implantation by two urgeon at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation from January 1990 to June 1998. Patient with le than 3 month of follow-up were excluded.
REULT: Diagnoe of uveiti included idiopathic (15 eye), arcoidoi (10 eye), par planiti (four eye), CMV retiniti (two eye), Fuch heterochromic iridocycliti (two eye), yphili (two eye), and one eye each of tuberculoi, Crohn’ dieae, HLA-B27 aociated, and acute retinal necroi. Average follow-up wa 20 month (range, 3 to 63 month). Bet-corrected viual acuity improved in 37 eye (95%). Average improvement wa 4 ± 3 nellen acuity line (range, 1 to 10 line). Thirty-four eye (87%) attained final viual acuity better than or equal to 20/40. Viual lo occurred in one eye (3%) with CMV retiniti. No improvement in viual acuity wa een in one eye (3%) that developed a retinal pigment epithelial detachment. Poterior capule opacification occurred in 24 eye (62%), 12 of which required Nd:YAG capulotomy (31%). Other potoperative complication included recurrence of uveiti (41%), cytoid macular edema (33%), epiretinal membrane formation (15%), and poterior ynechiae (8%).
CONCLUION: Phacoemulification cataract extraction with poterior chamber intraocular len implantation i afe in patient with uveiti. The incidence of recurrence of uveiti, cytoid macular edema, epiretinal membrane, and poterior ynechiae were lower than thoe reported previouly for extracapular cataract extraction.
