Acute full-thickne macular hole after uncomplicated phacoemulification cataract urgery

PURPOE: To report the occurrence of a full-thickne macular hole in the early potoperative period after uncomplicated phacoemulification cataract urgery. METHOD: Retropective analyi of a conecutive erie of eye referred for treatment of a full-thickne macular hole after uncomplicated phacoemulification cataract urgery. REULT: In a 4-year period, five eye with acute full-thickne macular hole after uncomplicated phacoemulification cataract urgery were examined. Metamorphopia and viion lo had occurred 2 to 8 (mean, 4.4) day after phacoemulification. All eye had attained normal corrected viion on day 1 potoperatively. A tage 2 full-thickne macular hole wa preent in four of the five, and a tage 3 full-thickne macular hole in one of the five eye with acuitie of 20/60–20/120 (median, 20/80). All five eye had ucceful cloure with early primary full-thickne macular hole urgery with viual improvement to 20/20– 20/60 (median, 20/40). CONCLUION: Full-thickne macular hole may occur rarely during the early potoperative period after uncomplicated phacoemulification, and early diagnoi and full-thickne macular hole urgery carrie a favorable prognoi.
