Abstract
PURPOE: To determine whether patient undergoing laer in itu keratomileui have potoperative dry eye.
METHOD: In thi retropective, interventional cae erie, 124 eye of 64 conecutive patient who underwent laer in itu keratomileui were examined for a dry eye ymptom, chirmer tet with anetheia, tear clearance rate, tear break-up time, vital taining for ocular urface, corneal enitivity, and blink rate. All value were compared before and after urgery (1 month, 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year) and value of P < .05 were conidered tatitically ignificant.
REULT: ubjective core for dryne wa increaed after laer in itu keratomileui. Tear function index (chirmer value/tear clearance rate) and break-up time were decreaed until 1 month (tear function index) and 3 month (break-up time) after laer in itu keratomileui but recovered to preoperative level thereafter. Fluorecein and roe bengal core were unchanged at all follow-up point except for improvement of the roe bengal core at 6 month. Corneal enitivity wa decreaed at 1 month and 3 month, and returned to the preoperative level at 6 month after laer in itu keratomileui. Blink rate wa decreaed at 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year after laer in itu keratomileui.
CONCLUION: Patient undergoing laer in itu keratomileui develop dry eye with compromied tear function for at leat 1 month after urgery. Ue of artificial tear in the early potoperative period may help to prevent unwanted ymptom and ocular urface damage.
