Abstract :
PURPOE: To evaluate long-term viual field outcome in primary open-angle glaucoma.
METHOD: In thi retropective cohort tudy, 40 eye of 40 patient with primary open-angle glaucoma with elevated intraocular preure and a minimum of 8-year longitudinal erie of viual field were plotted with Goldmann perimeter. Eye with any other ocular dieae except cataract were excluded. Manual grid template were ued to quantify the viual field. Linear regreion wa performed to etimate the rate of viual field decline. Pertinent clinical factor were evaluated for tatitical aociation with the rate of decline. Long-term clinical outcome including viual acuity, rate of legal blindne, and rate of medical and urgical intervention wa alo meaured.
REULT: In the 40 eye tudied, with a mean follow-up of 14 year, the viual field core decreaed at the rate of −1.5% per year. Overall, 68% howed ignificant decreae, and the rate of decreae among thee eye wa −2.1% per year. Five eye became legally blind from glaucoma; the cumulative rate of blindne from glaucoma wa 19% at 22 year. Higher intraocular preure and greater number of antiglaucoma medication on initial preentation were aociated with fater and lower deterioration of viual field (compared with the average), repectively.
CONCLUION: With tandard glaucoma therapy, the rate of viual field lo in primary open-angle glaucoma i low. Lower intraocular preure and more antiglaucoma medication are aociated with lower viual field decline. Legal blindne from glaucoma i 19% over a follow-up of 22 year
