Abstract :
PURPOE: To report an eye with a full-thickne macular hole and an aociated optic pit and the noteworthy intraoperative finding.
METHOD: Cae report. A 56-year-old woman preented with viual acuity LE: 20/100, a full thickne macular hole, and an optic pit. Optical coherence tomography and ophthalmic examination were performed preoperatively and potoperatively.
REULT: Although uually a macular hole aociated with an optic pit tend to be a lamellar and characterized by outer layer defect within preexiting macular detachment or chii-like cavitie, thi type of macular hole wa not preented in thi cae. Although the macular hole reembled the idiopathic type on clinical examination a well a on optical coherence tomography, it could only be cloed in the third urgical attempt after uing ilicone oil a a long-tanding tamponade. Peeling of an epiretinal membrane or the internal limiting membrane wa not poible during any of the three urgerie.
CONCLUION: Our obervation ugget that in cae of macular hole in aociation with optic pit, intillation of ilicone oil hould be conidered in the firt urgical procedure, epecially if no epiretinal membrane or internal limiting membrane peeling i poible intraoperatively.
