Abstract :
PURPOE: Nuclear cleroi develop frequently after ucceful par plana vitrectomy. We evaluated change in the degree of nuclear cleroi after nonvitrectomizing vitreou urgery for idiopathic epimacular proliferation.
METHOD: Forty-one conecutive patient (41 eye) underwent removal of idiopathic epimacular proliferation by nonvitrectomizing vitreou urgery and were followed potoperatively for at leat 12 month. Viual acuity, refractive error, lit-lamp biomicrocopy, and cheimpflug photograph were aeed preoperatively and potoperatively to evaluate change in the degree of lenticular opacification. Quantitative analyi of the nuclear cleroi wa performed by denitometry with cheimpflug photograph performed on only the lat 21 patient. We evaluated thee meaurement by comparing tatitically the preoperative and potoperative difference between both eye (operative eye minu nonoperative ocular data).
REULT: There wa no ignificant difference in the progreion of nuclear cleroi or degree of myopic hift between the operated and fellow eye during potoperative follow-up (mean ± D, 22 ± 8 month; median, 22 month; range, 12 to 48 month). The average preoperative and potoperative refractive error in operated eye were 0.0 ± 2.4 diopter and 0.1 ± 2.5 diopter, repectively; the average difference in the refractive error between both eye wa −0.2 ± 0.7 diopter preoperatively and −0.2 ± 0.9 diopter potoperatively (P = .961, paired t tet). The average preoperative and potoperative nuclear denity value by cheimpflug photography in 21 operated eye were, repectively, 72 ± 18 nuclear denity unit and 75 ± 17 nuclear denity unit; the average difference in nuclear denity value between both eye wa −1 ± 4 nuclear denity unit preoperatively and 0 ± 6 nuclear denity unit potoperatively (P = .631, paired t tet).
CONCLUION: Progreion of nuclear clerotic cataract baed on change in refractive error and cheimpflug photography wa not oberved after nonvitrectomizing vitreou urgery.
