PURPOE: To decribe a cae of evere dry eye yndrome in a child. METHOD: Obervational cae report. The author decribe a 10-year-old male with evere dry eye who wa profoundly diabled by pain and photophobia depite aggreive conventional therapy. Lacrimal gland hitology wa conitent with the primary jögren yndrome, and erologic and immunohitologic evidence upported the hypothei of Eptein-Barr viru cauality. REULT: Treatment with ytemic acyclovir and cycloporin A reulted in dramatic and rapid reveral of the profound icca yndrome and enabled the patient to reume hi normal activitie. CONCLUION: Eptein-Barr viru dacryoadeniti hould be conidered in the differential diagnoi of keratoconjunctiviti icca in children. Eptein-Barr viru can caue keratoconjunctiviti icca, which can be treated uccefully with acyclovir therapy in addition to uppreion of the inflammatory repone
