Acute potoperative endophthalmiti caued by Actinomyce neuii

PURPOE: To decribe a cae of acute potoperative endophthalmiti caued by Actinomyce neuii after uncomplicated phacoemulification with poterior chamber intraocular len implant. METHOD: Interventional cae report. A 58-year-old male underwent phacoemulification, right eye, with poterior chamber intraocular len implant. On potoperative day 6, he preented with pain, redne, and decreaed viual acuity, right eye, and wa found to have endophthalmiti. REULT: Vitreou culture revealed the gram-poitive, anaerobe Actinomyce neuii. After appropriate intraocular, periocular, topical, and ytemic therapy, the infection cleared, but the viion of the patient never improved a a reult of a central vein occluion. CONCLUION: Actinomyce pecie can rarely caue potoperative endophthalmiti, and it hould be conidered in cae of evere potoperative intraocular inflammation.
