Abstract :
PURPOE: To report dry eye patient’ functional viual acuity, which wa meaured after utained eye opening for 10–20 econd, a a imulation of viual function of daily act of gazing, which i defined a looking at an object with involuntary blink uppreion.
METHOD: Interventional clinical nonrandomized comparative trial. We meaured ordinary bet-corrected viual acuity and functional viual acuity in non-jögren’ yndrome (non-, N = 10) and jögren’ yndrome (, N = 12) patient and in normal control (N = 8), propectively. urface regularity index (RI) of corneal topography wa alo meaured under routine circumtance and after utained eye opening. Blink rate while gazing were meaured during reading in another 28 dry eye patient and during driving in another 8 normal control.
REULT: Functional viual acuity did not change (1.27–1.16) in normal control, but decreaed ignificantly from 1.18–0.336 in non- patient (P = .0007) and from 1.15–0.228 (P < .00001) in patient. RI after utained eye opening increaed in non- (P = .032) and patient (P = .0007), but not in the normal control. Blink rate during reading (P < .001) and driving (P = .012) were ignificantly decreaed from baeline blink rate.
CONCLUION: Thi tudy how that the viual function of dry eye patient become abnormal with ocular urface irregularity when the eye i kept open for 10–20 econd. Our data indicate impaired viual function in dry eye patient while gazing. Functional viual acuity may be important in daily activitie.
