Abstract :
PURPOE : To report the foveal anatomy in patient with perifoveal poterior vitreou detachment (PPVD) uing optical coherence tomography. DEIGN : Retropective obervational cae erie. METHOD : A retropective tudy of fellow eye of patient of patient with macular hole and thoe with early macular hole tate were examined with optical coherence tomography, biomicrocopy, and contact b-can ultraonography. Twenty-three eye of 23 patient were dicovered to have PPVD, which wa defined a peritent attachment of the vitreou to the central macula with a limited detachment of the poterior vitreou in the perifoveal region. REULT : The mean diameter of peritent vitreou attachment in eye with no foveal deformation wa 1829 μm, flattening of the foveal depreion 840 μm, and with foveal cavitation 281 μm (P < .001, pearman rank correlation). The difference in the mean diameter wa ignificant (P = .001, Krukal-Walli tet, all pairwie comparion howing ignificant difference uing the Mann-Whitney tet). CONCLUION : Thi tudy found that the diameter of the vitreou attachment in eye with PPVD correlated with induced change in foveal anatomy. The diameter of vitreou attachment were conitent with known region of robut attachment of the vitreou determined hitologically. Although the actual force loading on the central macula cannot be determined in patient with perifoveal poterior vitreou detachment, the tre, which i force / unit area may well increae with maller area of attachment leading to mechanical failure of the macula.
