Abstract :
PURPOE: To decribe the tomographic feature of the neuroenory retina after ucceful rhegmatogenou retinal detachment urgery DEIGN: Cohort tudy. METHOD: We propectively examined cro-ectional retinal image uing optical coherence tomography (OCT) in 15 eye of 15 conecutive patient (mean age, 46 year) who underwent cleral buckling urgery for treatment of rhegmatogenou retinal detachment. The retina appeared reattached upon binocular tereocopic indirect ophthalmocopy. All eye were examined at 1, 3, 6, and 12 month potoperatively. The time from onet of ubjective ymptom of retinal detachment to retinal urgery ranged from 4 to 66 day (mean, 14 day). The potoperative OCT finding and bet-corrected viual acuity were tatitically analyzed uing the Mann–Whitney U tet. REULT: The detached retina appeared attached on ophthalmocopy in all eye 1 month potoperatively. OCT howed reidual retinal detachment in four eye (27%) at the fovea and in three eye (20%) at the fovea and adjacent area. The remaining eight retina (53%) were attached when examined tomographically. In ix of the even eye with reidual foveal detachment by OCT, the retina reattached pontaneouly up to 12 month potoperatively. The potoperative bet-corrected viual acuity improved gradually during 12 potoperative month in all 15 eye. A ubtantial increae in viual acuity occurred when the fovea reattached in the ix eye with reidual detachment. CONCLUION: Foveal retinal detachment may perit after ucceful retinal detachment urgery in eye in which the fovea appeared to be attached on ophthalmocopy. The reidual foveal detachment may explain, in part, the delayed viual acuity improvement after ucceful cleral buckling
