Abstract :
PURPOE: To report the 1-year viual outcome and incidence of peritent and recurrent choroidal neovacularization (CNV) after limited macular tranlocation (LMT) for ubfoveal CNV in patient with age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). DEIGN: Interventional cae erie. METHOD: Retropective review of 102 conecutive eye of 101 patient that had the inferior limited macular tranlocation procedure for ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to ARMD. The outcome meaure were viual acuity at 12 month after urgery, change in viual acuity from baeline, the proportion of eye with moderate (3 or more line) or evere (6 or more line) viual acuity lo, and cumulative incidence of peritent or recurrent CNV and it impact on viual acuity. Cumulative incidence wa etimated uing Kaplan-Meier urvival analyi method. Aociation between peritence and recurrence of CNV and the nellen viual acuity recorded at each follow-up viit wa evaluated uing the Wilcoxon rank-um tet. REULT: Eighty-ix (84.3%) of 102 eye completed the 1-year follow-up. By 12 month potoperatively, 35 (40.7%) of the 86 eye achieved viual acuity of 20/100 or better while 34 (39.5%) of the 86 eye experienced 2 or more nellen line of viual improvement. In the 52 eye with effective tranlocation and complete laer photocoagulation of the CNV complex with paring of the enory fovea, the etimated incidence of recurrence wa 34.6% at 12 month (95% confidence interval of 21%–48%). ixty-five percent of the recurrence were ubfoveal and caued a decreae in viual acuity. There wa a trend toward wore median change in viual acuity in eye with peritent or recurrent CNV. CONCLUION: Limited macular tranlocation for the treatment of ubfoveal CNV econdary to ARMD i aociated with improvement in viual acuity in approximately 39.5% of eye and enable complete laer photocoagulation of the neovacular complex with paring of the enory macula in approximately 60.4% of eye that complete 1 year follow-up. Peritence and recurrence of CNV are common after LMT and are important caue of viion lo. Further tudie are warranted to more preciely evaluate the rik and benefit of LMT in ARMD.
