The detection of a relative afferent pupillary defect

PURPOE: To decribe a imple technique that detect a ubtle relative afferent pupillary defect. DEIGN: Obervational report. METHOD: With the patient eated at a lit lamp and the lit illumination turned off, a tranilluminator light i wung back and forth between the eye. The examiner oberve the direct pupil light repone and the conenual light repone under lit-lamp magnification. CONCLUION: Uing lit-lamp magnification, the examiner may oberve mall amplitude of pupillary movement in the evaluation of a relative afferent pupillary defect.
