Abstract :
PURPOE: To ue the retinal thickne analyzer (RTA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) canner for quantitative meaurement of retinal thickne in eye with macular dieae. DEIGN: In a cro-ectional tudy, 44 patient (55 eye) with macular dieae and ufficient media clarity to viualize the fundu uing clinical biomicrocopy underwent an ophthalmologic examination, fluorecein angiography, RTA, and OCT during the ame viit. METHOD: Foveal and foveal center (foveolar) retinal thickne meaurement were obtained by RTA and by OCT. REULT: Retinal thickne meaurement were obtained by OCT in all 55 eye and by RTA in 34 eye (62%, primarily due to interference from media opacitie). In the 34 eye in which meaurement were obtained by both intrument, mean foveal thickne wa 291 and 269 μm for OCT and RTA, repectively; foveolar thickne wa 277 and 265 μm, repectively. OCT and RTA meaurement of foveal thickne were trongly correlated (intracla correlation COEFFICIENT = 0.89), a were meaurement of the foveolar thickne (intracla correlation COEFFICIENT = 0.94). Topographic map generated by the two technique yielded qualitatively imilar information. CONCLUION: Overall, there wa excellent agreement between RTA and OCT meaurement. Each technique ha advantage that may make it ue preferable in a particular ubgroup of eye or to decribe a particular dieae proce. An important conideration i that media opacitie create le interference for OCT than for RTA, o that in tudy population with a moderate-to-high prevalence of media opacity, image can be obtained in a greater percentage of eye by OCT than by RTA.
