Abstract
PURPOE: To report an immunohitochemically proven cae of a coinfection of the retina by Eptein-Barr viru and cytomegaloviru in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency yndrome (AID).
DEIGN: Interventional cae report.
METHOD: Potmortem evaluation of retinal tiue of a 45-year-old female AID patient with atypical fibrinou iridocycliti and vitriti in coure of a cytomegaloviru retiniti in the left eye wa performed for evidence of dual infection with cytomegaloviru and other herpe group virue. Immunohitochemical examination with double-taining technique and antibodie againt Eptein-Barr viru and cytomegaloviru wa ued.
REULT: In the retina of the left eye, cell reacting with antibodie againt cytomegaloviru and cell tained with antibodie againt Eptein-Barr viru were detected in the layer of ganglionic cell and the inner granular cell layer.
CONCLUION: Eptein-Barr viru coinfection hould be taken into conideration in unuual cae of necrotizing cytomegaloviru retiniti in AID patient.
