Treatment of conjunctival quamou cell carcinoma with topical cidofovir

PURPOE: To decribe a cae of conjunctival quamou cell carcinoma in itu that wa uccefully treated with adjunctive topical cidofovir. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 52-year-old woman preented with a diagnoi of diffue conjunctival papillomatoi in the right eye. he underwent conjunctival biopy followed by a 6-week coure of cidofovir eyedrop (2.5 mg/ml). REULT: The biopy pecimen demontrated quamou cell carcinoma in itu. After thi biopy and treatment with cidofovir, the ma regreed into a mall vacular tuft, which wa excied and treated with cryotherapy. ix month after cidofovir treatment, the patient developed cicatricial change of the inferior punctum. No recurrence of the quamou cell carcinoma ha occurred in 24 month of follow-up. CONCLUION: Cidofovir ha hown effectivene in the treatment of neoplatic leion involving variou mucu membrane ite. Thi antiviral drug may be a valuable addition to our treatment armamentarium for patient with quamou cell carcinoma in itu of the conjunctiva. The poible relationhip between topical cidofovir and cicatricial change of the lacrimal ytem cannot be determined from thi iolated report, but further invetigation i indicated.
