Choroidal metatai in dieminated lung cancer: frequency and rik factor

PURPOE: To determine frequency, rik factor, and benefit of a propective creening for intraocular metatai in patient with metatatic lung cancer. DEIGN: Conecutive obervational cae erie. METHOD: An ophthalmologic creening wa performed on 84 conecutive patient uffering from metatatic lung cancer. Medical hitory and dieae tage were evaluated in regard to the rik for intraocular metatai. REULT: In ix patient (7.1%) choroidal metatai (CM) wa detected. Choroidal metatai wa preent only when at leat two other organ ytem were affected by metatai (P = .03). The choroid wa the ixth common ite of organ metatai. Mean remaining life pan in patient with CM wa 1.9 (0.2–5.9) month. CONCLUION: Choroidal metatai i common in advanced metatatic lung cancer. However, due to the hort urvival of affected individual, a ytematic creening of at-rik patient for CM eem to be of limited benefit.
