ucceful treatment of orthodontic-aociated traumatic endophthalmiti

PURPOE: To report ucceful management of orthodontic-aociated traumatic endophthalmiti. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 17-year-old boy developed endophthalmiti after a penetrating corneal injury produced during removal of an orthodontic wire. Treatment included par plana vitrectomy (PPV) with broad-pectrum intravitreal and ytemic antibiotic. REULT: Clinical endophthalmiti reolved after PPV with injection of intravitreal vancomycin (1 mg) and ceftazidime (2.25 mg), along with oral ciprofloxacin (750 mg twice daily). Microbiologic culture of intraocular ample produced taphylococcu epidermidi, treptococcu viridan, and Lactobacillu pecie. Viual acuity improved to 20/20. CONCLUION: Orthodontic-aociated endophthalmiti can involve multiple organim. It can be uccefully treated with current treatment modalitie, including PPV, intravitreal antibiotic, and ytemic antibiotic.
