Abstract :
PURPOE: To report the outcome of eyelid recontruction with a taroconjunctival flap complicated by premature flap dehicence.
DEIGN: Interventional cae erie.
METHOD: In eight of approximately 100 patient who underwent unilateral lower eyelid recontruction with a taroconjunctival (Hughe) flap during a 15-year interval, the procedure wa complicated by premature flap dehicence reulting from accidental trauma 1 to 11 day after the recontructive procedure. Immediate urgical repair of the dehicence wa attempted in one cae, but the tiue reopened within 1 day. Otherwie, the eyelid were permitted to heal pontaneouly with the application of erythromycin ophthalmic ointment a the ole therapy.
REULT: Although the recontructed eyelid healed atifactorily in each cae, one patient, who had dry eye from jögren yndrome, required econdary urgery to treat mild lagophthalmo and lower eyelid retraction.
CONCLUION: The ultimate functional and ethetic outcome after premature, traumatic dehicence of a Hughe flap were generally atifactory, uggeting that elective diviion of the conjunctival pedicle in uncomplicated cae may be performed relatively oon after the primary recontructive procedure.
