  • Abstract
PURPOE: To evaluate ucceful macular hole urgery uing optical coherence tomography (OCT) and multifocal electroretinography (MFERG). DEIGN: Interventional cae erie. METHOD: In a propective tudy, 20 eye of 20 patient with ucceful urgery for tage II, III, or IV idiopathic macular hole were evaluated by bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), ocular examination, OCT, and MFERG preoperatively and 1, 3, 6, and 12 month potoperatively. For tatitical analyi, the paired t tet and nonparametric method were ued, a well a the pearman analyi. REULT: Potoperatively, all 20 eye of 20 patient had anatomic cloure of the macular hole confirmed by OCT. The center of the fovea, meaured by OCT from the retinal pigment epithelium to the inner retinal urface, had a mean ± D thickne of 116.5 ± 30.9 μm (range, 68–175 μm) 1 year potoperatively. Bet-corrected viual acuity ignificantly improved (preoperative mean ± tandard deviation [D] value, 0.131 ± 0.081 and 1 year potoperative mean ± D value, 0.407 ± 0.193). Multifocal electroretinography value area 1 (0–2.8 degree) and area 2 (2.8–9 degree from the center of the fovea) ignificantly improved (preoperative mean ± D value 3.10 ± 1.334 nV/deg2 and 3.573 ± 1.545 nV/deg2, repectively, and 1 year potoperative ± D mean value, 5.53 ± 1.208 nV/deg2 and 4.748 ± 1.404 nV/deg2, repectively). The thickne of the fovea, meaured by OCT, ignificantly correlated with the BCVA 1 year potoperatively. One year potoperative MFERG value area 1 and 2 were not correlated with 12-month BCVA and OCT finding. CONCLUION: Twelve month potoperatively BCVA and MFERG value ignificantly improved in thi erie of eye with ucceful macular hole urgery. Optical coherence tomography finding were correlated to BCVA, but MFERG value were not correlated to BCVA and OCT finding, 1 year potoperatively
