Abstract
PURPOE: To decribe anterior optic neuriti in adult meale infection.
DEIGN: Interventional cae report.
METHOD: A 31-year-old woman preented with bilateral viual lo 6 day after the onet of maculopapular rah. Complete ophthalmic and neurologic examination, radiologic tudie, and lumbar puncture were performed.
REULT: Viual acuitie were counting finger in both eye, with bilateral optic dik hyperemia and welling noted. Neurologic examination wa unremarkable, and computed tomography and magnetic reonance imaging of the brain were normal. The cerebropinal fluid (CF) wa devoid of white cell, although meale immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodie were detected in both CF and erum. Intravenou corticoteroid were adminitered, and clinical finding reolved within 1 month. A fall in erum IgM and a rie in erum IgG titer were oberved.
CONCLUION: Although rare, optic neuriti in the abence of encephalomyeliti may occur in meale. Whether treatment i effective i unknown.
