Abstract
PURPOE: To report reading ability uing a tandardized reading chart after macular tranlocation with 360-degree retinotomy in eye with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or with myopic choroidal neovacularization (mCNV).
DEIGN: Interventional cae erie.
METHOD: In 34 eye of 34 patient with ubfoveal choroidal neovacular membrane (AMD, 23; mCNV, 11), macular tranlocation urgery with 360-degree retinotomy and imultaneou extraocular mucle urgery were performed. The average age wa 67.4 ± 7.9 year, and the average follow-up period wa 7.6 ± 3.3 month. The bet-corrected far viual acuity (FVA) wa meaured with a tandardized viual acuity chart uing Landolt C, and the critical print ize (CP) wa determined with the Japanee verion of the Minneota reading chart (MNREAD-J Chart) preoperatively and potoperatively. Preoperative and potoperative change in the CP wa compared with the ubjective viual improvement a aeed by a quetionnaire.
REULT: The potoperative improvement of FVA wa tatitically ignificant in eye with mCNV (P = .010) but not ignificant in eye with AMD (P = .495). The potoperative improvement of CP wa tatitically ignificant both in eye with AMD (P = .027) and in eye with mCNV (P = .004). The ubjective viual improvement wa ignificantly correlated with the change of CP in patient after a econd better eye urgery.
CONCLUION: After macular tranlocation with 360-degree retinotomy, the improvement of reading ability wa ignificant in eye with both AMD and mCNV. We conclude that thi urgical method i well uited to improve reading ability of patient with AMD or mCNV.
