A cae-control comparion of the clinical characteritic of glaucoma and ocular hypertenive patient with and without the myocilin Gln368top mutation

PURPOE: To determine whether primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertenive (OHT) patient who harbor the myocilin Gln368top mutation differ in phenotype or clinical coure from patient without the mutation. DEIGN: Cae-control tudy. METHOD: A retropective cae-control tudy compared all known POAG patient (n = 18) and OHT patient (n = 4) harboring the Gln368top mutation evaluated by the Univerity of Iowa Glaucoma ervice with control patient from the ame population. Patient and control ubject were matched for diagnoi, age, ex, and race and were compared for phenotype and clinical coure. REULT: Mean age of dieae onet and mean peak intraocular preure (IOP) of cae were imilar to thoe reported by other tudie. There wa no tatitically ignificant difference between cae and control for the following variable: age at onet, peak intraocular preure, nellen viual acuity, number of medication, Humphrey viual field (HVF) mean deviation, HVF pattern deviation, number of filtering urgerie performed, time interval from diagnoi to argon laer trabeculoplaty (ALT), diagnoi to firt filtering urgery, ALT to firt filtering urgery, and percent change in IOP after ALT and after firt filtering urgery. CONCLUION: There i no tatitically ignificant difference between the onet and clinical coure of POAG and OHT caued by the Gln368top mutation and POAG and OHT not aociated with the mutation.
