Abstract
Purpoe
To report a cae of group A β-hemolytic treptococcal infection with ign of early necrotizing faciiti after cometic blepharoplaty in a healthy patient.
Deign
Interventional cae report.
Method
A healthy 59-year-old woman underwent outpatient bilateral upper and lower blepharoplaty with midface lifting. Thirty hour potoperatively he developed marked pain and edema of the left eyelid and face, and a violaceou eyelid bulla, which heralded early necrotizing faciiti. Culture of the eroanguinou exudate from the left eyelid revealed group A β-hemolytic treptococcu organim.
Reult
The patient wa treated with intravenou antibiotic, intravenou corticoteroid, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and wound debridement. The infection reolved with mild cicatrization of the left upper eyelid.
Concluion
Group A β-hemolytic treptococcu i an increaingly recognized caue of infection that occur after trauma or urgery, even in highly vacularized area uch a the eyelid and face. It i a potentially devatating infection, particularly in vacularly compromied patient, and require immediate and aggreive treatment.
