Abstract :
Purpoe It ha been uggeted that a coniderable ubet of patient currently claified a having ocular hypertenion may have thicker than average cornea that reult in an overetimation of the true intraocular preure (IOP). A a conequence, ocular hypertenion patient with greater corneal thickne may be at a lower rik for functional damage, uch a that detected by hort-wavelength automated perimetry (WAP). The purpoe of thi tudy wa to evaluate the frequency of WAP deficit in ocular hypertenion patient and to correlate thee finding with corneal thickne meaurement in the ame patient. Deign Cro-ectional obervational tudy. Method ixty-eight ocular hypertenion patient with normal optic dik and 63 normal ubject were included in the tudy. All participant underwent tandard automated perimetry (AP), WAP, and central corneal thickne meaurement uing ultraound pachymeter. Central corneal thickne meaurement in ocular hypertenion patient with abnormal viual field tet reult were compared with central corneal thickne meaurement in ocular hypertenion patient with normal viual field reult. In addition, central corneal thickne meaurement in ocular hypertenion patient were compared with central corneal thickne meaurement in normal ubject. Reult ixteen of 68 patient with ocular hypertenion (24%) demontrated WAP abnormalitie, wherea four of 68 (6%) howed a deficit on AP. The mean central corneal thickne in ocular hypertenion patient with abnormal WAP reult wa ignificantly lower than the mean central corneal thickne in ocular hypertenion patient with normal WAP reult (545 ± 25 μm v 572 ± 35 μm; P = .006). The mean central corneal thickne in the normal group wa 557 ± 33 μm. The mean central corneal thickne in ocular hypertenion patient with normal WAP reult wa ignificantly higher than in normal ubject (P = .02). There wa no ignificant difference between mean central corneal thickne in normal ubject and in ocular hypertenion patient with abnormal WAP reult (P = .19). Concluion The patient claified a having ocular hypertenion but with viual field lo detected by WAP had ignificantly lower central corneal thickne meaurement than the ocular hypertenion patient with normal viual field reult. Thee reult ugget that central corneal thickne hould be taken into account when aeing rik for the development of glaucomatou damage among ocular hypertenion patient.
