  • Abstract
Purpoe To determine the relationhip between poterior vitreou detachment and idiopathic macular hole. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method In a propective tudy, the poterior hyaloid face wa canned from the poterior pole to the far periphery by optical coherence tomography in 25 eye (22 patient) with an idiopathic macular hole (tage 1 = 1, tage 2 = 7, tage 3 = 10, and tage 4 = 7), and a map of the poterior vitreou detachment wa contructed. Reult One eye with a tage 1 macular hole had a poterior vitreou detachment confined to the vacular arcade, but attached to the fovea. In all even eye at tage 2, the detached poterior hyaloid enlarged upward beyond the uperior vacular arcade, but topped at the margin of inferior vacular arcade. In two cae, the poterior vitreou detachment alo extended temporally and uperonaally. In all cae, the vitreou face remained attached to the fovea. ix of the 10 eye at tage 3 had larger partial poterior vitreou detachment that extended not only upward, but alo beyond the inferior vacular arcade, while in the other four eye, the ize and poition of the poterior vitreou detachment wa imilar to tage 2 macular hole. However, unlike tage 2, the poterior vitreou detachment included the fovea in all eye. All even eye with a tage 4 macular hole had complete poterior vitreou detachment that extended to the far periphery in all direction. Concluion There i a cloe correlation between the tage of the macular hole and the degree of poterior vitreou detachment. Thi cloe correlation ugget that progreion of idiopathic macular hole i related to enlargement of the poterior vitreou detachment.
