Abstract :
Purpoe To report four cae of macular hole formation following ruptured retinal arterial macroaneurym. Deign Cae-control tudy. Method Review of clinical record of 75 conecutive eye (73 patient) with macroaneurym. Macroaneurym were confirmed uing either fluorecein angiography or indocyanine green angiography or both that indicated a telangiectatic retinal vacular change. Clinical data of patient with macroaneurym with and without macular hole (MH) formation were compared retropectively. Reult Of 75 eye, four (5.3%; four patient) with macroaneurym had a macular hole. In one of the four eye, a macular hole wa detected 2 day after the rupture. The ditance from the macroaneurym to the center of the fovea wa ignificantly cloer in the four eye with a macular hole (MH group, 1.1 ± 0.4 (mean ± tandard deviation [D]) dik diameter) than in the 71 eye without a macular hole (non-MH group, 1.9 ± 0.9 dik diameter) (P = .0196). The incidence of ubretinal hemorrhage in the macula wa ignificantly greater in the MH group (100%) than in the non-MH group (35.2%) (P = .0195). Concluion Macular hole formation aociated with ruptured macroaneurym i not a uncommon a previouly thought. We ugget that there might be early onet of macular hole formation following ruptured macroaneurym. Macroaneurym with early-onet macular hole are preent near the center of the macula and are accompanied by ubretinal hemorrhage in the macula.
