Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the relationhip between viual field and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickne meaured by optical coherent tomography (OCT) and to ae the diagnotic ability of OCT to ditinguih between early glaucomatou or glaucoma-upect eye from normal eye. Deign Retropective, non-randomized, cro-ectional tudy. Method A total of 160 eye of 120 normal Japanee adult, 23 eye of 16 patient with ocular hypertenion, 38 eye of 35 glaucoma-upect patient, and 237 glaucomatou eye of 140 glaucoma patient were enrolled in the tudy. The glaucoma group included 89 early glaucomatou eye. Thickne of the RNFL around the optic dik wa determined with three 3.4-mm diameter circle OCT can. Average and egmental RNFL thickne value were compared among all group. The correlation between mean deviation and RNFL thickne in glaucomatou eye wa alo analyzed. Receiver operating characteritic (ROC) curve area wa calculated to dicriminate normal eye from early glaucomatou or glaucoma-upect eye. Reult A ignificant relationhip exited between the mean deviation and RNFL thickne in all parameter excluding the 3-o’clock area. The average RNFL thickne had the tronget correlation in all parameter (r = −0.729, P < .001). Retinal nerve fiber layer thickne at the 7-o’clock inferotemporal egment had the widet area under the ROC curve in all parameter for early glaucomatou eye (0.873). Concluion Meaurement of RNFL thickne by OCT i ueful in detecting early RNFL damage. Furthermore, OCT meaurement of RNFL thickne may provide clinically relevant information in monitoring glaucomatou change.
