Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether between-eye refractive and viual outcome after ame-eion laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) urgery are correlated, and to determine whether uboptimal viual and refractive outcome in one eye are predictive of poor reult in the fellow eye.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Retropective chart review. A total of 484 eye of 242 patient met incluion criteria of having undergone ame-day LAIK urgery and having 3-month refractive and viual acuity outcome. tatitical comparion of outcome were performed, including between-eye Pearon correlation analyi and logitic regreion model for predicting econd-eye outcome. Main outcome meaure were 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month uncorrected viual acuity and manifet refraction.
Reult
Refractive outcome at 1, 3, and 6 month between firt (right) and econd eye were not found to be ignificantly different. No difference in uncorrected or bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity wa oberved between firt and econd eye Refractive outcome of pherical equivalent, phere, and cylinder and viual outcome of uncorrected and bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity were highly correlated between the two eye. Analyi of cae with uboptimal outcome (≥1 diopter from intended correction or uncorrected acuity equal to or wore than 20/40) ugget that a poor refractive or viual outcome in the firt eye increae the rik of a poor outcome in the econd eye by approximately 20-fold.
Concluion
Retropective analyi of refractive and viual outcome from patient undergoing ame-eion bilateral LAIK demontrate a high correlation of refractive and viual outcome between the eye.
