Abstract
Purpoe
To Internet Advance publication at ajo.com Feb 13, 2003. compare the intraocular preure (IOP)-lowering effect and afety of latanoprot, bimatoprot, and travoprot in patient with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertenion (OH).
Deign
Interventional tudy.
Method
Thi 12-week, randomized, parallel-group tudy wa conducted at 45 U ite. Previouly treated patient with OAG or OH and an IOP ≥23 mm Hg in one or both eye after wahout received either latanoprot 0.005%, bimatoprot 0.03%, or travoprot 0.004% once daily in the evening. At baeline and after 6 and 12 week of therapy, maked evaluator meaured IOP in triplicate at 8:00 , 12 noon, 4:00 , and 8:00 , and maked invetigator graded conjunctival hyperemia before the 8:00 IOP meaurement. The primary efficacy outcome meaure wa change between baeline and Week 12 in the 8:00 IOP (time of peak drug effect).
Reult
In all, 410 of 411 randomized patient were included in intent-to-treat analye (latanoprot, 136; bimatoprot, 136; travoprot, 138). Baeline mean 8:00 IOP level were imilar (P = .772); by week 12, reduction were oberved in all 3 group (P < .001 for each). Adjuted (ANCOVA) reduction in mean IOP at 8:00 were imilar (P = .128) a were thoe at 12 noon, 4:00 , and 8:00 . Fewer latanoprot-treated patient reported ocular advere event (P < .001, latanoprot v bimatoprot), fewer reported hyperemia (P = .001, latanoprot v bimatoprot), and average hyperemia core were lower at week 12 (P = .001, latanoprot v bimatoprot).
Concluion
Latanoprot, bimatoprot, and travoprot were comparable in their ability to reduce IOP in OAG and OH patient. Latanoprot exhibited greater ocular tolerability.
