Abstract :
Purpoe
To review the degenerative dieae of the peripheral retina in relationhip with the rik to develop a rhegmatogenou retinal detachment and to preent recommendation for ue in eye at increaed rik of developing a retinal detachment.
Deign
Focued literature review and author’ clinical experience.
Reult
Retinal degeneration are common leion involving the peripheral retina, and mot of them are clinically inignificant. Lattice degeneration, degenerative retinochii, cytic retinal tuft, and, rarely, zonular traction tuft, can reult in a rhegmatogenou retinal detachment. Therefore, thee leion have been conidered for prophylactic therapy; however, adequate tudie have not been performed to date.
Concluion
Well-deigned, propective, randomized clinical tudie are neceary to determine the benefit-rik ratio of prophylactic treatment. In the meantime, the evidence available ugget that mot of the peripheral retinal degeneration hould not be treated except in rare, high-rik ituation.
