Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate treatment of cytoid macular edema aociated with central retinal vein occluion with intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide.
Method
Thi tudy included 10 eye of nine patient with perfued central retinal vein occluion with viual acuity of 20/50 or wore. Following baeline evaluation, including bet-corrected viual acuity, intraocular preure (IOP), fluorecein angiography, and volumetric optical coherence tomography (VOCT), triamcinolone acetonide (4 mg in 0.1 ml) wa injected into the vitreou cavity.
Reult
Mean duration from the time of diagnoi to the intravitreal injection wa 15.4 month. All 10 eye demontrated biomicrocopic improvement in cytoid macular edema with correponding improvement in VOCT meaurement from a mean of 4.2 mm3 preinjection to a mean of 2.6 mm3 at lat follow-up (P < .001). Mean bet-corrected viual acuity improved from 58 letter (range, 37–72) at baeline to 78 letter (range, 50–100 letter) at lat follow-up (average, 4.8 month). The viual acuity improvement wa tatitically ignificant (P = .01). ix eye (60%) were ≥20/50. There were no ignificant complication. Three eye (30%) without previou hitory of glaucoma required initiation of topical aqueou uppreant therapy for IOP elevation at lat follow-up. One eye with a previou hitory of open-angle glaucoma required a trabeculectomy.
Concluion
Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide appear to be effective in reducing cytoid macular edema aociated with central retinal vein occluion. Thi reduction often correponded to an improvement in viual acuity. Further evaluation i warranted to ae it afety and efficacy in thee eye.
